And she begins again...
Sometimes being still is the most powerful form of movement
I’m on the verge of opening a new space, I’m excited. I questioned whether I needed/wanted a space to teach anymore. I questioned absolutely everything and this turned out to be exhausting, I can overthink, it’s a waste of energy so I let it all go, it felt uncomfortable at first. When you are striving, searching, ruminating, you tap out of the magic. Sitting still, keeping my mind and heart open, I became more of me. I have a mantra, it feels good to me, “I am open to receive”. It’s so cool to me that in the dropping of all expectation and trusting in something way bigger than me, the door opens.
Turns out a studio space appeared, it felt right to continue, I have no idea for how long. My work has evolved, as I have. My thing is transformation. And it starts with the body, deep listening which is what we do ALOT of in Pilates. To say I am a Pilates Teacher doesn’t define what I do, I can’t put into words the depth of experience my teaching brings, and I’ve given up trying to reinvent myself as anything other than me. Pilates is having a moment for sure, but I’m a huge fan of keeping it as original as I can. I love the classical approach, it builds strong, flexible bodies. I also love deep enquiry, listening and meditation. Yin and Yang.
The new pad feels nurturing, it has a studio feel with a difference. It’s a retreat place, a space where you can drop everything at the door and who knows what we will end up doing, that’s down to what you need. I am there to facilitate, hold space for your transformation. The Pilates Studio is a space for transformation. In this container you have a framework in which to explore many possibilities. It’s a space that promotes conscious movement, somedays its strong and disciplined, others its fluid and centred. It’s whatever you need, for it’s all about you. It’s your time.
There is The Cadillac, supportive, hang tough and play hard, pulled apart and put back together. The Reformer, your teacher, orientate in motion. The Wunda Chair, dynamite, packs a punch for something so cute. The Ladder Barrel, prepare to stretch, finding hidden spaces. The Ped-O-Pul, standing posture and integration. Baby chair, the secret weapon. The High chair, sturdy strength. The Guillotine, not the paper variety ;-) The spine Corrector - does what it says on the tin.
You see Joseph invented the equipment and exercises to accompany the Mat work exercises. He also invented smaller pieces known as The Foot Corrector, Magic Circle and Half Barrel. So I read on Saturday in the @thetimes newspaper, something along the lines of move over Reformer Pilates, it’s now all about Tower Pilates. I did actually roll my eyes, for those that know, its absolutely about the whole system! Great we are getting a mention, but I really wish fully equipped studios would get some hype, for its in these spaces real transformation happens. You can be guided around the studio to an array of apparatus to challenge, correct and teach you the missing links so that you can attain (as Mr Pilates said himself) “a uniformly developed body and sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.
So, here goes a new chapter. If you want to get on board, its only me and I only have a certain amount of quality teaching in me per day, get in touch, you will find me, all of me, lets see what you need…
